I am a New Yorker who lives in Vienna. I have a math degree from Brown University. I was previously a Brown University alumni representative, interviewing international students in Vienna who apply to Brown. I have taught IB mathematics at Danube International School Vienna and math and physics in the United States.
I’ve tutored students of all ages in math since I was a student myself, teaching math and physics to my friends.
I have many years of experience editing math textbooks for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, one of the largest educational publishers in the USA. As an editor, I develop the teacher’s edition of each book, which includes recommendations for new and experienced teachers.
I am also the author of two humorous children’s novels. My debut novel was called a “literary treat” by The New Yorker. My second novel was named a Best Book of the Year by the Bank Street College of Education. I lead creative writing workshops in English and German for children and adults who are interested in fiction writing. I also teach English writing to native English speakers and to international students who are beginning to learn English.
Besides teaching and writing, I was a director of research and user experience for The New York Times internet division. My wife is Austrian so I am settled here in Vienna. I speak German fluently and, because I lived in Chile and Haiti, I understand Spanish and conversational French too. Besides teaching privately and writing children’s novels, I help the Vienna public libraries run a multilingual program for children.
